Purpose

NOLA Education LLC. Star Academy program is a “school-within-a-school” intervention and acceleration program for academically at-risk students. It uses a hands-on, project-based, STEM-inspired curriculum to reengage learners who have fallen behind, accelerating them up to two grade levels in a single year while improving their attendance, behavior and test scores. The core curriculum aligns with local, district and state standards. Star Academy also exposes students to employment possibilities, relating their learning to potential careers so they understand its relevance to their success in life. Star Academy has achieved a 95% retention rate among at-risk cohorts from which 90% were expected to drop out. The program has been proven at nearly 100 sites across 14 states, with 84% of students advancing two grade levels in a single year, 95% increasing standardized test scores, and dramatically improved attendance, social skills and behavior....
